Inkjet print on watercolour paper, frame which was acquired from a framed certificate at having been a recipient for a 2017 Wild At Heart Spirit Award, english breakfast tea bag, staples, typewritten text on cartridge paper, dimensions unrecorded
Video of my installing Benji Hartfield Art Student, 2017 in November 2017
On the final day of high school, I hid in the art class storeroom all evening until all students and staff had left; around midnight I installed my final artwork Benji Hartfield Art Student, 2017 amongst the Scots College Hall of Fame, previously exhibiting mainly athletes and sporting achievements (along with musical prodigies and the occasional debating achievement) until my self-appointed induction into such. There had never existed a fine-artist achievement.
The self portrait was made in mathematics class a few months prior. I printed the photograph using the inkjet printer of the art room on watercolour paper, and employed a frame of the exact dimensions the existing athletes had been framed with. The title Benji Hartfield Art Student, 2017 was type-written on my typewriter, with the last tea bag I used at school stapled in the upper right hand corner (my signature and date existing in the bottom right).
I received a phone call from the headmaster Mr. Yule in February the following year to my anticipated amusement and initial anxiety, expressing that he and the remaining staff decided to regard Benji Hartfield Art Student 2017 as a permanent installation.
